Hello! I'm Erika - a full-time, real-life Certified Personal Trainer specializing in helping the chronically achy and injured feel STRONG and SAFE in the gym. .I wanted to share a little bit about why I do what I do:
I stumbled on my Kinesiology major in college (i.e. study of human movement/exercise science) because I was always fascinated with exercise, human performance etc...but simultaneously frustrated with stubborn, seemingly never-ending injuries. .
I set out on a path to take every physical therapy and athletic training related course/internship I could to get into physical therapy school while I started my work as a personal trainer. .
Life had some other plans for me as I overworked myself to the point of developing chronic exertional compartment syndrome in my lower legs. With a year to go in school, I ran myself to the ground to the point of not being able to walk across campus without intense pain. My plans for grad school got put on hold. .
While on hold and working in the fitness industry, I noticed a serious gap between the physical therapy world and the fitness world. How do you get from insurance saying you're good enough for day to day life to feeling like you can crush your workouts safely and reach your fitness goals? .
That's where my work and life experience comes in. My leg injuries (followed by humbling head and neck injuries from a fall and a hit 😅) led me to continue my work and education dealing with working out with injuries. .
Knowing how much chronic pain and injury seriously SUCKS has fueled my passion for helping other people find out just how they can workout safely and effectively despite pain and injury. .
There IS a way for people to work on their fitness and health despite injury. This is what I do day to day in-person at my job and I LIVE for those moments where clients realize it's possible to find a workout that - at best - improves their recovery and - at worst - shows them how to keep up their fitness through the process💪 .
